:: Bronchiectasis ::

Meaning : defined as irreversible bronchial dilatation, leading to chronic cough, sputum formation, and recurrent infections. Bronchi and bronchioles become abnormally and permanently dilated, caused by infection and inflammation, excessive production of mucous, obstruction of mucous, atelectasis and inflammation.

Pathophysiology:

Obstruction / infection --> inflammation --> destuction --> mucociliary impairement --> accumulation / stagnation of secretion --> infection --> airway obstruction --> atelectasis / consodilation

Consolidation:
•Solidification into a firm, dense
•Swelling or hardening of normally soft tissue
•Accumulation of inflammatory cellular exudate in the alveoli
•Elveolar space that contains liquid instead
•Pulmonary edema, inflammatory exudate, pus, inhaled water, or blood (from bronchial tree or haemorrhage from a pulmonary artery
